Scout's Story
Over a year ago, I moved to Southern California. I had never lived away from home and was terribly homesick. Thankfully, Marc and I had Cody, a 9 year old Husky that Marc has had since he was a puppy. We knew we would get another dog, but thought no way could we handle one now. While perusing the internet, I came across Husky Camp, a Husky Rescue Foundation (www.huskycamp.com) we decided to go see them to see how Cody would interact with other dogs. Well, when we arrived, this scraggly little husky was the first thing we saw. He absolutely broke my heart. We would take some of the dogs out on walks with him and Cody didn't seem impressed. Well, Marc's eye was on that little scraggly dog in the front. So, I decided in all fairness, we better bring him for a walk. The dog's foster parents, Scott and Robbi, came up to us and noticed our interest. Then, they told us this dog's story:

Scott and Robbi got a call one day from the Buena Park Animal Shelter to come see a dog. So, Scott went down and, as per the direction of the shelter, went to the pin where they said he could find the dog. No dog. So, the attendant walks back with him and says, "There". What Scott thought was a pile of rags (literally) was actually a dog. The attendant informed him that this dog was scheduled to be put down in one hour. Scott couldn't walk away knowing they would kill this dog. So, he decided to take him home. Much to Scott and Robbi's surprise, it was a Husky! Although the tips of his ears were gone and his teeth were worn down from gnawing on a cage, he was in good health! So, after some good training and grooming, the dog they named Scout (due to his never ending curiosity) was a happy, good looking Husky!

Hearing that, Marc and I's hearts just dropped. We took him for a walk and much to our surprise, he was a perfect dream! He didn't pull on the leash, challenge Cody, or even do the ceremonial dog "greeting". Cody and Scout just walked along as if they were always friends. So, that day, we walked out with a new dog.

It has been over a year and Scout has been an absolute blessing in our life. He got me through some of the hardest times. He's my little angel. Not to mention, Cody is much happier with him around. Every day when we get home, we have these two bobbing tails waiting for us. No matter how hard our day is, they're always happy to see us. And when the day has been really bad, they're right there to make you smile and give you kisses. Scout, the dog that just barely escaped life, gave us a happy, loving life that we couldn't imagine.

Marc likes to think that he picked Scout out, but Scott and Robbi laugh and say, "No, he picked you."
