HUSKY    CAMP

Announcing...the arrival of Oolong!!!

He is arriving on Thursday January 10 - hide your hearts :)

Back in September of 2007 I was contacted by a very nice lady named Abbie Kirkpatrick. Abbie lives in Taiwan and does rescue of all different breeds and mixes. She contacted us and asked if we would be interested in assisting a red and white husky to get out of their country. Seems it is considered a bad omen to have a dog howling near your home as it is a sign of impending death.

We did a lot of thought and consultation with two other Siberian Rescues, Husky Smiles in South Bay, and Half Moon Husky Rescue in Huntington Beach as to the thought of bringing in a dog from another country, when so many were here already. But, this red and white boy's chances of a home over in Taiwan were nil.

So started the process. Unfortunately the vet determined that Oolong (named by Abbie) was anemic and would have to stay in Taiwan until healthy enough to travel. The first two pictures below are of Oolong when he went to the vet. Abbie was able to find a great foster home, that was home with him 24/7 and could keep his happy howling under wraps. It's been a grueling 4 months for Abbie, Oolong and his foster home, but he is finally healthy enough to make the trip to America.

So, Oolong is on his way to Los Angeles International Airport via China Airways and as a companion to Brenda and will be landing at about 12:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Oolong originally came from a shelter in Taiwan - he was turned in by his owner because of the howling characteristic.

Costs always come into play and donations are always welcome. We are a non profit rescue, under the umbrella of SHRRCA (www.shrrca.com) Donations can be made in Oolong's name through SHRRCA and it will be applied to Oolong's expenses.

Oolong will be spending a good two weeks at Husky Camp settling in before he is neutered and prepared for adoption. Watch for this wonderful boy on our Available for Adoption page soon!
